Background. Emmeline was born the same year man went to the moon, but she'd tell you she was the greater feat. Although that was confidence that only came after her death, and over decades. The early Em was a shy woman, with an incredibly overbearing father and a submissive mother she had modeled herself after. All she really thought about was her next day; she didn't have many ambitions or desires past getting married so that she could afford to move out.

But then, after separating from her friend on her walk home from a game night, she noticed she was being followed. She increased her pace until she finally ran, but there was no way she would ever outrun a vampire -- and she was pulled into an alley and turned.

The first couple decades after that are ones that Em prefers not to think about -- it was a lot of blood, and wandering, and blood, and run-ins with other vampires she'd wish she'd never met, and blood. But as she moved across the country, she stopped and spent a lot of time with a small coven in Colorado. It was there that she learned to control her impulses and feed on animals instead of people. They gave her the freedom and security to actually rest and find who this new version of herself was.

The coven leader was killed by another vampire along with several other coven members, and since the leader was who Em felt closest to, she made the decision to move on after. She just moved to Forks a couple of years ago when she started at the community college. She doesn't know how long she'll stay.
